Shifting focus to individual studies
Once a group of studies has been introduced and commented on, a common strategy used by many authors is to illustrate this paragraph's major point by using evidence from individual studies. This means shifting the focus away from talking about the studies in general to discussing the findings of individual studies.
Making a transition to individual studies
The following language can be used to make a transition to discussing the results of individual studies:
- Studies on X have explored … For instance/ In particular, Author X (year of publication) posited/ identified/ found/ concluded … Others, such as Author Y (year of publication), show that …
- X has not escaped the attention of the … community. For example, Author X (year of publication) and Author Y (year of publications) suggest/ argue that …
- There are a few reports in the literature of … In one study, … (references).
- Arising from an earlier focus on X (references), literature emerged that places the emphasis on Y. Specifically, Author X (year of publication) found that …
