Chapter in an edited book

Author(s). (Year). Title of chapter in edited book. In Name(s) of editor(s) (Ed(s.)), Title of edited book (pages of chapter). Place of Publication: Name of Publisher.

Basic rules (chapter in an edited book)

Granger, S. (2009). The contribution of learner corpora to second language acquisition and foreign language teaching: A critical evaluation. In K. Aijmer (Ed.), Corpora and language teaching (pp. 13–32). Amsterdam, Netherlands: John Benjamins.

  1. start with the last name of the chapter’s author (not the editor’s name!)   
  2. use a comma (" , ") and one space between the author's last name and the initial(s) (middle name initial is often omitted)
  3. give the year of publication in parentheses and then use a full stop (" . ")  
  4. give the title of the chapter (not italicized!) and then use a full stop
  5. Write “In” to start giving details about the edited book in the following order:

- initial(s) of the editor’s first (and middle name), full stop, and last name (e.g., K. Aijmer)

- the word “Ed.” in parentheses followed by a comma -> (Ed.),

- title of the edited book in italics (e.g., Corpora and language teaching)

- page range of the chapter in the book using pp. (e.g., pp. 13–32)

- the location (city or city and state) followed by a colon (" : ")

- the name of the publisher followed by a full stop.
