Journal article in a foreign language

Author(s). (Year). Title of article in a foreign language in Latin characters [English translation of the title]. Name of Journal, Volume(issue) Number, pages. doi number.

Russian:

Nosov, M. G. (2010). ES-ASEAN: Vzaimovygodnost' sotrudnichestva [EU-ASEAN: Mutually beneficial collaboration]. Sovremennaya Europa, 1, 31–43.

Chinese:

Hua, L. F. (1999). Qingdai yilai Sanxia diqu shuihan zaihai de chubu yanjiu [A preliminary study of floods and droughts in the Three Gorges region since the Qing dynasty]. Zhongguo Shehui Kexue, 1, 168–79.

Basic rules

Tolstov, S. (1992). Konstitucionnyj status i etnopoliticheskie processy v Shotlandii (70-80-ye gody) [Constitutional status and ethnopolitical processes in Scotland in the 1970s and 1980s]. Voprosy novoy y novyeishey istorii, 38, 49–59.

The same rules apply to articles in a foreign language as to a typical journal article, except that:

the author’s name, the title of the article, and the name of the foreign journal are transliterated (spelled using Latin letters) if the article was originally written in a language using a non-Latin alphabet such as Russian, Arabic or Chinese
no comma (" , ") is used after the transliterated title of the book
the transliterated title of the article is immediately followed by its English translation in parentheses (e.g., [Constitutional status and ethnopolitical processes in Scotland in the 1970s and 1980s], as shown in the example above)
no translation is provided for the title of the journal (just its transliteration)
a DOI assigned to the article is provided after a full stop, where applicable.
